For Color Film Repair "CR Series CR-IC"

Lasertec has developed a new product "LCD Color Filter Repair System "CR-IC (Integrated Cartridge type repair head)" with substantially improved color repair performance compared with that of the conventional film thermal transfer method.

Lasertec counts on this new product as one of our core products in 2007 and further on and is planning to receive orders for about 10 systems in the fiscal year 2007.

Background

Rapid price deterioration of LCD panels is forcing the industry to urgently pursue cost reduction and consequently, repair needs aiming for yield improvement is rising. In addition to the conventional repair method that planarizes Tokki defects by grinding tape, needs for a color repair method that first burns out defects by laser and then performs coloring the burned out region with color repair material, is intensifying.
Recently, in particular, the color filter manufacturing using the inkjet method that has come into mass production stage is suffering from a new type of defects that originates to color mixing at the boundary of two adjacent pixels, and repair for this kind of defects ultimately requires the color repair method.
Under such circumstance that the importance of color repair intensifies, we have developed a new color repair system with substantially improved color repair processing speed and reduced repair film consumption volume compared with those of the conventional dry film thermal transfer film method that we developed some time ago. Also, this new system is equipped with an automatic color repair function, which provides remarkable laborsaving in Color Filter repair work.

Description

In CR-IC, the repair film feeder that had been set at the edge side of the large stage in the conventional system is now integrated into one cartridge along with the heater unit for film thermal transfer, and total four of this type of cartridges are set in a gantry head. In each cartridge, repair films of red, blue, green and black are set.
Integration of the repair film feeder and the heater unit into one cartridge shortens both repair film feeding time and used film disposal time to their minimum. Furthermore, as each color has its own heater, each film is incessantly pre-heated and the optimized temperature can be maintained for each color, which makes repair time shorter than that of the conventional system. To be more precise, the conventional system required about one minute for one repair while CR-IC requires only ten plus several seconds for one repair. Also, as the repair film consumption volume can be reduced from about 30mm to 6mm, repair film consumption volume becomes one fifth of that of the conventional system.
CR-IC can be equipped with Automatic Color Repair Function as option, which enables capturing defects, determining repair region, determining color to be repaired and inspecting after repair, all automatically, and remarkable laborsaving for color repair work can be achieved. And because a large area such as about 300um x 300um can be repaired by onetime film thermal transfer, mixed color pixel defects that are generated in Color Filter manufacturing by the Inkjet method can be repaired quite efficiently. Moreover, a batch repair function, that can perform onetime film thermal transfer repair of about a 1mm diameter defect in which same color defects of multiple and complex shapes exist, is equipped.

Features

  • One time color repair by the film thermal transfer method requires only ten and several seconds.
  • Repair film consumption volume is reduced to about one fifth of that by conventional tools.
  • Laborsaving of repair work is achieved because automatic color repair function is equipped.
  • Mixed color defects and the same color defects with multiple and complex shapes can be repaired efficiently.

Applications

  • Defect repair of LCD Color Filter
